Logan's Favourite Books - Updated

I thought I would update on the kids' favourite books. Although there are a few that are still the same, some have changed.

The Day Louis Got Eaten by John Fardell. We got this book for free on World Book Day from the Book Bug Scottish Book Trust. It's about a little boy who gets eaten by a monster, then the monster gets eaten by a bigger monster and so on and so on. His sister is on a mission to rescue him from the monster's belly!

Again! by  Emily Garrett. I found this book on Amazon. I was browsing for children's books and I though the cover looked cute. When I read what it was about I knew Logan would love it! It's about a little dragon who wants his mummy to read him his bedtime story over and over again. But his mummy is getting tired and the little dragon gets a bit angry. There's a surprise at the end of the book. My kids love it!

Pirates Love Underpants/Dinosaurs Love Underpants by Claire Freedman. I couldn't find our copy of Dinosaurs Love Underpants to put in the picture. Both Logan and Keira love these books. Especially the dinosaur one which Logan knows by heart (I do too!). The mystery of dinosaur extinction is finally solved in this funny book!

Barry The Fish With Fingers by Sue Hendra. We've had this book for a while but it's only recently that Logan has been wanting us to read it to him. It's quickly become a favourite of his and we're hoping to buy the rest of the books in the series soon!

I may start doing mini reviews on the kid's books. I'm forever looking for new books.

Unfortunately Keira is getting to an age where she doesn't want to be read a bed time story quite so much. She only asks a couple of time in a week now.

I will do a separate post with Macey's books!

Hope this gives who ever reads this an idea for some new books!

Kids Wardrobe Organisation - Two Kids, One Cupboard

When it was time to move Logan into the same bedroom as Keira, we had the problem of sorting out where we were going to keep all of their clothes. Before there was two beds in the room there was a huge triple wardrobe with five drawers, a mirror and shelves that held all of Keira's clothes. Logan's clothes were always in the cupboard. It took me a while to come up with the perfect way to store them all but I'm so happy with the way it all turned out. These pictures are from when it was first done. We did a big clothes clear out as you can see!

The cupboard only had one hanging rail which was no where near enough for two kids. My plan was to buy a second rail. I already had fittings to put a second rail in. However, we were getting rid of Keira's old curtain pole which just so happened to be the perfect width for the hanging rail fittings! I got my dad to cut it to the correct size and I then fitted it in the right place! It's perfect because Keira's rail is pink and Logan's is silver. I was actually considering spray painting Logan's blue or green! Logan's clothes are on top and Keira's on the bottom.

The other half of the cupboard has shelves. It didn't originally have shelves though. It was two hanging sections. At the time I didn't need the hanging rails inside the cupboard.  As I said before, Keira had a huge wardrobe. The shelves were still very much needed. The top shelf has the girls' drawers for hair accessories. I also keep Keira's hair dryer, combs/brushes and shower caps there. The second shelf is towels. I don't know if this is weird or not but the kids all have their own towels that no one else uses apart from them. I don't know how it ended up like that. I think when Keira was a baby I loved her having all her own things and it just stuck. Paul and I share towels but the 3 kids have their own. Logan's are on the left and Keira's are on the right. I keep wash mitts and face clothes in the middle. The bottom part has two big plastic storage bins. The one on the left has trouser hangers (the ones with clips! I never take ordinary hangers from shops but always the trouser ones because you can't seem to buy anywhere.) and the right box has blankets. The inside of the left door had Keira and Macey's hair clip holders. They kept falling off though so now they hang on over the door hooks on the bedroom door.

Obviously the clothes sections have changed and been filled up since I took the first pictures but the was it's organised is still pretty much the same. I keep their clothes in a certain order too. Vests, short sleeve, long sleeve, shirts, jumpers, cardigans, shorts/skirts, trousers/leggings, jeans, dresses, dressing up outfits, jackets. I did want to colour co-ordinate it but I think it would drive me nuts if things were out of place. So, for now this is just great! This is the happiest I've been with a wardrobe situation since Keira was a baby!

Macey Is 3 Months Old!

I can't believe that it's been 3 months since my second little princess arrived into the world. Time is going by so fast and it's making me scared to face the next 9 months. She'll be a year old before we know it.
She's fitted in with the family so well and is the complete opposite of her brother and sister. She's so unbelievably laid back. Nothing fazes her at all. She is always happy. The other day she was crying because she was ready for a bottle and she was still trying to smile to me even through her tears! She still only takes roughly 4oz of bottle every 2 and half or 3 hours.
She's been sleeping through the night for a good few weeks now. Normally she will get her last bottle at around 8ish and that's her until about 6am.
She just recently moved into size 2 nappies and 0-3 months clothes. On saying that, the dress she's wearing in the picture is 3-6 but it must be small made!
She's teething at the moment but has honestly been no trouble at all.
She's my perfect little angel. I'm not religious but I honestly think I was given her to save me from myself! I'm having such a bad time at the moment with both Keira and Logan. Their behaviour is shocking. There's some days where I feel like I don't want to go on. My stress levels are at all time high and I feel like my insides are being crushed. Macey makes up for all the bad! She keeps me going when things get extra rough!

On Dublin Street

So, occasionally I like to read adult books. I noticed this one had some good reviews so I thought I'd just go for it. I've been in a bit of a reading slump. My books are taking me ages to get through. These type of books are good to get my reading pace back. I read this one in two days.

This is the story of Joss and her heartbreaking past. But her life is turned around when she meets Braden. This book is set in Edinburgh, Scotland. This to me was amazing because I didn't have to imagine all the places mentioned! I already knew what it all looks like. Even Dublin Street itself.
Sometimes I found the protagonist a little annoying but nothing really bad. Overall, I enjoyed this book and went straight on to reading one of the novellas. I'm currently reading a second novella from this series and will move onto the second book which is a story from a different characters point of view.

This book is for you if you enjoyed the likes of Fifty Shades of Grey.

Teacher Gifts

Today was the last day of school for the summer holidays in Scotland (or yesterday in my house! Keira didn't go today). Every year I have the problem of trying to decide what to get the teachers as gifts. Keira has her main class teacher and two support teachers every day. They all honestly deserve a medal. They have a lot to put up with when it comes to Keira and I'm super grateful. They are amazing with her. The whole school is. This year was a last minute decision. I wanted to get them something that not everyone would have gotten. I looked in the Card Factory etc at the thank you gifts and figured they'd probably get them all over and over.

I decided to get them all a mug from Cath Kidston. I'm actually pretty jealous and want one for myself. Especially the middle one! I also got her two support teachers a Cath Kidston keyring. Her main teacher got a pretty nail polish by Ciate. I know she likes nail art. At the moment Cath Kidston has a sale on so everything was down in price. I also bought a large 40 serving chocolate cake to go in the staff room.

If  I hadn't left it so late I probably would have gotten them some personalised book marks or something along those lines.

Do you buy your kid's teachers gifts? I'd love to hear some other ideas.

H&M Home

I recently placed an order with H&M from their homeware sections. This is the first time I've bought anything like that from them.

I've bought some cheaper bed sets recently and the quality is just not what I was looking for. I was in two minds about the H&M bed sets. Mostly because I hadn't seen any in person or even spoke to anyone who used H&M home. However, the quality is amazing! And that's not even the best bit. If you're like me and struggle to keep the duvet in place whilst trying to put the cover on, then H&M bed sets are for you! They have a little opening at the top on each side for you to put your hands in and hold onto the duvet! I think this is a great idea and I don't understand why other companies haven't done this yet! The openings aren't noticeable at all one the bed is made. I'm planning on buying one for my bed very soon!

The towels are also good quality. I bought shower towel size. They are perfect for the kids. I don't know if it's weird or not but my kids all have their own towels. I have a towel cupboard that hold mine and Paul's one. Keira, Logan and Macey all have their own separate towels that no one uses apart from them. I don't know why that happened but I like it that way.

Overall, I highly recommend giving H&M home a try!

I'm Back!

Now that everything seems to be on the up, I feel like I can get back to blogging and hauling!
We got Keira's blood test results. Her thyroid is fine but she's low on iron. So, she has medication to take to try and help her out.
I've been to hospital to see the consultant about my problem. I've lost tissue in my right breast which is causing the indentation. I feel like the weight of the world has been lifted off my shoulders!

So, some posts will hopefully be coming later today!

Life Update and Taking A Break..

I haven't really blogged much since Macey was born. I just don't have the same time at the moment. I was almost getting myself back on track. I had loads of entires planned and saved on draft.

But the past couple of weeks have been pretty rough. I don't really want to write entries making out everything is happy when at the moment it's not.

A couple of weeks back we noticed that Keira looked a bit different but we really couldn't put our finger on what it was. Then one day I was taking pictures of the kids and I noticed that Keira looked like she had no eyelashes. This was strange because she's had really long and thick eyelashes since the day she was born. It was always one of the first things anyone noticed about her. So, after having a proper look at her eyes I decided to take her to the doctors. She was booked in for a blood test to check her thyroid. Thing is, when we started the journey to diagnosing her Autism, I asked about her thyroid and it was brushed off. When she was younger she always had a visibly puffy neck. It's not so noticeable now that she's bigger but I'd say it's still slightly puffy. She's also really hyperactive, which is also a symptom. She had her blood test last Thursday. She was so brave. Didn't even cry! We get the results on Monday next week. Which is also Logan's 3rd birthday!
Last week I noticed that I have an indentation on my right breast. I went to the doctors with it today and I've been referred to the hospital to have it further checked. It may be nothing but it's still doesn't stop the worry.

Logan is also going through a phase at the moment where he is terrified of everything. I can't even go to the toilet without him standing outside the door screaming at the top of his lungs. He has his nursery visit soon. I'm starting to worry that he won't be out of this phase by the end of the summer and he makes going to nursery every day difficult.

Macey is doing amazingly. Haha. No problems with her at all. She's a complete gem!

So, I'm 100% stressed all of the time at the moment. I feel like I'm on the verge of a mental breakbown...

Oh life, why are you so mean?! :(

Joyland by Stephen King

I started reading this book right before I went into hospital to have Macey. Like my last book, it took me longer than usual to read it. Now that we're settling into a routine and Macey is sleeping all night my reading pace is starting to pick up again.
Even though it took me a while to read this pretty small book, I absolutely loved it. It's a story about a murder mystery and a summer of working in an amusement park. If you're looking to get into Stephen King's works I'd say this would be a great starter book! It's a relatively easy read. I knew what the end was going to be from about half way through the book but I still really enjoyed it!

Holiday Plans

My mum and I have been talking about trying to get a little holiday organised for a while now. Our previous 2 attempts fell through unfortunately. We had booked Disneyland Paris but my dad suffered a seizure and some heart problems and we ended up having to cancel. We then booked to go to the Lake District but my dad suffered with some health problems again. So, we changed the date. My dad got better then a few weeks before we were due to go we were in a car crash. We then had no way of getting to our holiday without it costing a fortune.

So, today we booked our hotels in Blackpool! We're going for a Monday to Friday holiday on 13th October! We're staying in the Premier Inn hotel that's right at the back of the Pleasure Beach theme park. I'm so excited for the kids! I'm sure they'll love it! There's so much to do. At the moment we're collecting the tickets from Kellogg's cereal packets. It offers an adult ticket free with any full paying child or another adult for the Sea Life Center, Madame Tussaud's and the Blackpool Tower!

For our room, for 4 nights, it cost £116. I think that's pretty good considering it's for 2 adults and 3 kids! This time we're travelling by train so there will be no problems with getting there should anything go wrong! We've still to book our train tickets but I'm waiting to try and get a better deal.

There's so much for the kids to do. We're going to the Pleasure Beach to Nickelodeon Land. There's also a big swimming pool called the Sandcastle. We're going to watch sticky rock being made, to the millions of arcades and maybe to the Blackpool Tower circus! There's also the beach and donkey rides. That's on top of what was listed for the Kellogg's deal.

Now, it's time to make holiday lists! Haha!

LUSH Haul

I've been desperate for some new Lush things for a while. I haven't had any since Christmas. So, I put in a little order online. Then the following day, my mum went out shopping and asked if I wanted anything picked up. So, I got her to see if any of the eggs were left. She also got a little treat each for the kids. Excluding Macey of course!

I got Tea Tree Water spray, 'Think Pink' bath bomb, 'Sakura' bath bomb, 'Pop In The Bath' bubblebar and my all time favourite, 'Creamy Candy' bubblebar! My mum picked up the egg for me. I can't remember what this one was called.  And the kids got an 'Ickle Baby Bot' each. Of course I had to share my egg with Keira. She also stole my 'Think Pink' and my 'Sakura' bombs. So far all I've had is half an egg and a third of 'Creamy Candy'. With my next order I'm making sure I order double everything! Haha!

Inside the egg! A little chick bomb!

School Bullies

I knew it would come at some point but I was really hoping it wouldn't at all. Keira is being bullied at school by a boy in her class. She doesn't seem all that fazed by it but I'm really upset and angry by it. She's mentioned him a couple of times at home and yesterday I spoke to a teacher about it. She said that as far as she was aware they egged each other on. Then in the afternoon when Paul picked her up from school the deputy head teacher pulled him to the side to tell him about what had happened during the day. Apparently this little boy punched Keira in the nose whilst putting his jacket on. He claimed it was an accident, yet when she cried he laughed and called her a 'weirdo'. This upsets me the most because Keira has Autism. And obviously, her behaviour and her general manner can seem a bit odd to someone who doesn't have Autism. The school is going to be dealing with and speaking to the boy's parents (I think) but what I wouldn't give to have a minute with him for a quiet word. If only. I don't understand it because I would never let my child talk to anyone like that. And if they did they would be in serious trouble for it. They are being taught to respect everyone and everything.
Now I'm terrified for her future in school. Especially high school. People can be so cruel. I wish I had the money to send her to school for kids with difficulties or home school her!

Nutmeg Kids Haul

I've been really curious about Nutmeg by Morrison's clothing range for a while now but no store near me was big enough to have clothes in it. Recently a new shop opened not too far from me and it's huge! After seeing some pictures of lovely outfits from there I decided to take a trip in to see it all for myself! The clothing range in this shop wasn't huge but they did have a nice variety and it's all very reasonably priced.
I got a few things for Macey, a shower proof jacket and pants for Logan, and pants for Keira. They didn't have any actual clothing that I liked for Keira. I only wish they had an online shop! I didn't manage to get a picture of Logan's jacket but it's covered in dinosaurs! Which is perfect for my dino obsessed 2 year old!

American Psycho by Brett Easton Ellis

This book took me so long to finish! I started reading it towards the end of my pregnancy but struggled due to tiredness!
I think a lot of people are mixed about this book. It has very detailed descriptions of sex and violence which I think put a lot of people of. It's not for the faint of heart! I'm pretty strong minded and not overly easy upset. I pretty much loved this book! Read if you're into murders and executions ;)

This And That..

I'm going to try my hardest to blog more often! It's so hard to find spare time with 3 kids and house to look after!

Macey is now 7 weeks old (8 weeks on Friday!) She had her check up with the health visitors today. She is now 10lb 5oz (almost the same as Logan at birth!) and 56cm long. She's still doing really well. Looks so different already!

Logan and Keira are doing great! Logan got his nursery placement for August! It's exciting!

Off to make a 'posts to write' list!

General Update

So, life with 3 is a bit crazy! Macey is a really good baby (not that there's such a thing as a bad baby). She likes loads of cuddles. She's still on 2oz bottles but I think she might be ready to move up to 3oz. She generally settles down properly for the night at around 11pm (ish), then she wakes some time after 3am, then usually between 5am and 6am. She's happy to go back in her moses basket after her bottle to go back to sleep. The health visitor was out to the house on Wednesday and Macey now weighs 7lb 8oz. So, she's doing great! Although after a little problem I've been told that I'm doing too much. I've continued on as normal, doing my washing, ironing, etc. Thing is, if something needs done in the house I will not sit around and wait for someone else to do it. And I'm too proud to keep asking for help. My stupidity is going to make it longer on my healing process.

Keira and Logan have settled with Macey amazingly. I'm especially surprised at Logan. I expected some jealousy but he's been amazing. Only problem at the moment is that he's going through the terrible 2s (if you can even call it that) big style. I feel like I spend the majority of my day yelling and that makes me feel like a terrible mother. He just won't take no for an answer. I'm about at my wits end with him.
They both had their hair cut last week. Keira's is a lot shorter than I expected it to be but it suits her. And she likes that it's easier to manage now.

We also went into Paul's work with Macey and Logan on Tuesday last week. (Which was also too much for me. Long walk from train station to his office, then all around a shopping centre and back to the train station). After visiting his work we took Logan to the Disney Store. And I went to a couple of other shops while we were there.
Yesterday, Keira went to Asda with her dad. The birds of prey display was outside so of course she wanted her picture taken with a bird!

Baby Macey

Baby Macey arrived on 21st March 2014 via scheduled c-section. She came into the world at 11.26am and weighed 7lb 4.5oz. I can't believe she's finally here!

Here's her birth story:
I had to be at the hospital at 8am on 21st March. I was told that I was the only scheduled c-section for that day so unless there was an emergency I'd be taken early. My Mum was my birth partner as Paul didn't want to be in the operating theater. When we arrived I was taken to the high dependency ward and given a bed. We were just to wait until it was time to go down. I was visited by midwives (both of them were the midwives I had during Logan's birth!), theater nurses, anesthesiologists and the surgeon. I decided to get sterilised at the same time as having the c-section so the surgeon went over every thing with me and even gave me possible scenarios in case I wanted to change my mind. As much as I would love to have another baby I will not take the risk of having a third c-section. I have three beautiful children to think about now. They will always come first. A part of me is sad that I will never be able to carry another baby but I know it's the best thing for me and my family.
I was finally given a gown to get changed into at about 10am. I was then taken down to the theater. It's so weird walking into the theater. Everyone was already there getting things prepared. I was asked to sit up on the bench and that's when the fun began!
It took almost an hour to get the spinal to work. That was the worst pain. They had to push their thumbs right into my spine to try and find the spaces. I have a giant bruise on my back from thumbs alone! Then the pain when they were inserting the wire thing.. they had to try and find the right place but it was giving me bad pains in my hips and spine. At one point I thought I was going to pass out so I had to lay down on my side. I thought they were going to just put me to sleep. I was so relieved when I finally felt my toes go numb!

Once the spinal took effect they got me to lay down on my back and started setting up the blind so I couldn't see what was happening. They double checked I was numb right up to my chest. Which I was. Then they began! The midwife told me I'd here a sucking sound like when you get to the end of a drink with a straw, and that was when the baby was ready to be born. The noise is the waters being sucked out. So, I just kept listening for that sound! As soon as I heard it I started crying because I knew she was almost here! They had to use forceps to get her out as she was a bit stuck up in my ribs. It left a little bruise on her cheek. She started crying straight away which was amazing! They wrapped her up and handed her to my mum and my mum held her next to me so I could see her whilst they did my sterilisation and fixed me back up. When it was all done they put Macey on my chest and wheeled me back to the high dependency ward. I was in there until around 8pm. I pretty much just held Macey on my chest the entire time! I let her go so I could get some toast and a bed bath. Paul took her and got her cleaned up and dressed.
I was up and out of my bed to be moved to my room. I got a room to myself which was brilliant! I don't really like the whole open ward thing. My bed had a co-sleep crib on it as well which made my life so much easier for picking Macey up. I needed help all through the night for the first night. Help to feed and change Macey because I was still too sore to try to sit up and then lay back down etc. Plus I had a catheter so it made everything awkward.
I had a two night stay at hospital and was allowed home on the Sunday afternoon because everything went so well! Macey is now 11 days old. She's doing amazingly. She only take roughly one and a half ounces each bottle but it seems to be doing her fine. She wakes every 2-3 hours for a feed. And she's starting to have a little bit of awake time throughout the day! She lost 4 ounces from her birth weight at the beginning but yesterday she was back up to 7lb 4.5oz! So, she's doing very well!
I'm also doing great. I have a bad back but that's down to the spinal. I was dreading getting my stitched out. I had a dressing covering my wound constantly so I didn't really know what was going on down there. However, when the midwife took my dressing off we discovered that my wound had been glued! Relief!

Keira and Logan both stayed at my mum and dad's house for the first week. They were just coming over to visit through the day. It was mostly because they are so boisterous and I'd just had major surgery. I didn't want to risk any injury. They're back home now of course and have adjusted brilliantly to having a baby sister. Logan is always very concerned if she cries etc. Think he's going to be a protective big brother! =) It's all kind of went over the top of Keira's head at the moment. But, she does give her baby sister love and hugs all the time!

I've had a few tearful moments over the fact that I'm now infertile. But I know I've definitely done the right thing for myself and my family. I'll get used to the idea in time!

Another Haul!

Paul and I went out shopping on Saturday to the Gyle Shopping Center. Keira and Logan were supposed to be going with us for a treat at the Disney Store and Pizza Hut but they were both too ill to go. My mum and dad kindly offered to look after them so we could go on our own. I had a 20% off at Marks and Spencers voucher to be used that weekend and really wanted to take the opportunity.

Our first stop was Monsoon Kids. I finally picked up the little cat shoes I had wanted to get for Macey. I was hoping they'd be a part of the sale but they weren't! Nevermind! I also picked up a light wear pair of tights for her. They shoes were £10 and the tights were £6.

Next we went to Schuh. We went because I promised Paul I'd treat him to new shoes for his work. He's forever buying cheap shoes that end up falling apart after a couple of months. I was fed up hearing about it so I bought him a pair of Dr Marten shoes. These should last a lot longer! Anyways, when we were in I saw this pair of Converse and I knew that Keira would absolutely love them! I bought them in a 10 because that's what she's been wearing, however, she couldn't get them on her feet. So, Paul took them back today on his way to work. They didn't have size 11 in store so they are posting them out to the house! They cost £37. Logan also got a pair of Converse but I bought them online. I'm waiting on them arriving.

Then we went to the Disney Store. I went ahead and bought they kids their treats. I won't have the chance to go back out with them again now before Macey arrives. I probably won't be able to anyways... my butt was so, so sore after the hours of walking! Keira got the baby crocodile from Tinkerbell and the Pirate Fairy, Phineas, Ferb, and some Palace Pets. She plays the Palace Pets game on her iPad and loves it. Logan got a Spiderman toy, a Buzz Lightyear gun, a cuddly Rex and Hulk Pjs. When we got to the till there was a Thumper plush toy on offer for £7.99 when you spent £10 or more, so I got it for Macey! I had planned on buying myself another animator doll and a mug but I completely forgot!

We then went into Boots. I only went in to get a tube of toothpaste for Keira and ended up buying Macey clothes! They have an offer on a lot items where you get 2 for£8. I got a little dress and an all in one. The all in one is size newborn but it looks huge! I also got her a little dress and bloomer set, which was £14. Then I noticed they had a sale rack. I found cute black patent shoes for £3 and a little bunny hat, also for £3.

Finally we went to Marks and Spencer. I got a few things for all 3 kids. Keira got a super soft woolly jumper, a cute pair of jeans with turn ups at the bottom and a t-shirt with a bright pink horse on the front. Logan got a sweatshirt with crocodiles on it and a pair of khaki canvas trousers. Then Paul spotted a t-shirt with the Gruffalo and the Gruffalo's child on the front. He held it up to show me and I said, 'oh yeah, get that' (Logan loves the Gruffalo). So he picked it up and we went onto the baby section. Only noticed when we got home he picked up aged 4-5 which is far too big. He didn't even look at the sizes. Just picked up whatever. Typical Paul. So, now that also has to go back to be exchanged for a smaller size. In the baby section Macey got one of the dresses that I've been after for a while! It's pale pick chord and is covered in swallows. It comes with lilac tights. I also bought her a little coat to get her by in the first couple of weeks.
In total it all came to £89... I didn't get my discount because M&S have crappy WiFi and we couldn't get connected to get the voucher code. So, annoying. From now on I'll be writing codes down before we go anywhere! Then in the food bit I treated myself to a box of macaroons. I've been wanting to try them for so long and never did because they were expensive. But I thought why not. If Paul can get £95 shoes and the kids can get all those toys, surely I'm entitled to a £6 box of desserts! Lol!

We headed home after this. I was so tired but I needed to go into Asda for a couple of things and for something for dinner. Ended up spending money on kids clothes that they obviously need =\
Keira got a new jacket and a pair of jogging bottoms. Logan got a jumper, a shirt and a pair of trousers, and Macey got a blanket, bibs and a little dress and leggings set.

I'm hoping to go into Primark tomorrow as I need to finish off my hospital bag. I'm also waiting on 12 deliveries... not including Keira's Converse. =\. So, there will more than likely be another big haul towards the end of the week. I kind of went a bit mad the past few days and have now left myself almost totally skint! Oops!

In other news, my sister in law just found out that she's expecting her second set of twins!! Completely crazy! She has identical girls, so she's hoping for at least one boy this time! Haha!
